TWO NEW SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS WILL OFFER STUDENTS
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES, PROVIDE OVERCROWDING RELIEF

MIAMI – Students in two heavily populated parts of the county will benefit from construction projects that will result in new, state-of-the-art senior high schools. The School Board yesterday awarded contracts for the construction of a school to replace South Dade Senior High School and a new school to be located at West 18th Avenue, between West 38th and 41st streets in Hialeah to relieve Miami Springs Senior High School, which has been on double sessions for three years.

The South Dade High replacement will house 3,641 student stations. The school will include a 370,000-square-foot facility with two three-story classroom buildings, a three-story lab building, and a two-story art/music suite. Existing athletic fields will be upgraded, and a new, expanded agricultural area will be provided. The school also will serve as an emergency shelter.

The project cost is budgeted at approximately $79.6 million and was awarded to Pavarini Construction Co. (SE), Inc. The project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2008.

State school “WWW,” as the new school in Hialeah is currently known, will contain 1,964 student stations in an 180,000-square-foot facility situated on a 6.5-acre site. It will be organized based on a “school within a school” concept and will include one three-story classroom building that will house general classrooms, various types of labs, a media center, and food and dining facilities; a stand-alone art/music suite; a gymnasium building housed on top of a two-story parking facility; a stand-alone auditorium; and a multi-purpose playfield.

The project cost is budgeted at approximately $50.8 million and was awarded to MCM Corporation. The project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2007.
