FOUR SAFETY TIPS FOR CHILDREN
MIAMI – As parents get ready to send their kids off to school, it is important to remember that the best mode of protection is awareness. Here are four safety tips that Miami-Dade County Public Schools suggests parents talk to their children about:
-
Children need to know how to deal with strangers. They should never take candy, money, and medicine from strangers and when frightened, should run to the nearest person they can find, preferably a police officer.
-
Children should be given a list of important phone numbers. That list should include their home phone number, parents’ work phone number, a relative’s phone number, the school’s phone number, and the number for police/fire rescue.
-
If children see a crime being committed, they should report it once they are in a safe place. To report a school crime, students are encouraged to call 1-877-7BE-BRAVE, a 24-hour hotline allowing anonymous reporting of actual or anticipated school crimes.
For more information regarding child safety, please contact Miami-Dade Schools Police at 305-757-7708.
