M-DCPS TO PARTICIPATE IN HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS
MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County School Board approved Wednesday the participation of the District’s schools and students in relief and assistance efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast. School Board Chair Frank J. Bolaños and Superintendent Rudolph F. “Rudy” Crew co-sponsored the proposal approved unanimously at a special meeting.
The District will team up with County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and others to participate in a non-perishable-items drive from today through September 5. Among the items being requested are canned foods, diapers, batteries, flashlights, blankets and toiletries. Drop-off locations are as follows:

M-DCPS will also work with the United Way to conduct a sealed bottled water drive from September 19 through October 21. Students, parents and employees are asked to donate sealed bottled water at their designated school or work location. Water will be picked up starting September 22 and donated to affected areas.
