MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD SELECTS NEW ATTORNEY The Miami-Dade County School Board selected JulieAnn Rico Allison as its new School Board Attorney at a special meeting Wednesday afternoon. Allison has served as the Chief Counsel to the School Board of Palm Beach County since 2002, and as a consultant to the Board for two years before that. As the Palm Beach Board’s attorney, she restructured the department of Legal Services and eliminated a good portion of the Board’s outside counsel resulting in more than $1 million in cost savings. Allison currently oversees a budget of $3.7 million, including a staff of 12 attorneys and 10 support staff. She supervises the handling of all legal matters involving real estate, business operations, construction, personnel, personal injury/risk management, regulatory compliance/governance and academics, as well as advising Board members and administration. Allison has also developed training classes for Palm Beach district staff, offering them the opportunity to better understand complicated topics such as exceptional student education, the state’s Sunshine Law, the No Child Left Behind Act and charter schools, so that administrators can be legally compliant in their work. Prior to her position with the Palm Beach School Board, Allison worked with a number of law firms in South Florida. She graduated from Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America in 1980. Allison’s contract with the Miami-Dade County School Board will be negotiated this week and is scheduled to go before the Board at its Sept. 7th meeting. ### 05-LJG-049 |
