M-DCPS CELEBRATES EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION WEEK

MIAMI - Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Week will be celebrated at Miami-Dade County Public Schools and throughout Florida during the week of October 2-8, 2005. ESE programs serve students with cognitive, emotional, and sensory disabilities.

This year’s theme for Miami-Dade County Public Schools is “Great Expectations: The Keys to Success”. Schools will host a number of events and activities which include: recognizing teachers, parents, and support staff for the assistance they give to students with disabilities; hosting presentations and trainings on a variety of topics; and highlighting the abilities of students enrolled in special education.

The Office of Special Education, Alternative Outreach, and Psychological Services provides services to meet the diverse needs of  more than 42,000 students with disabilities and their parents. Additionally, the Division of Advanced Academics provides services to more than 24,000 gifted students. These programs focus on preparing students to become successful in school, work, and life.

For more information on specific activities that will be taking place, please contact your neighborhood schools, Regional Center Offices, or Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System-South at 305-754-4081.
