M-DCPS RALLIES STUDENTS TO BE COUNTED OCT. 11-14MIAMI – Attendance in school is vital every day, but next week it carries a dollar value. Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is urging parents across the county to make sure their public school students are present during the all-important week of Oct. 11-14. That’s the crucial week that students are counted and numbers are reported to the State for purposes of funding. “This is always an important week for our schools, because the number of students who are in attendance determines the total amount of money the District receives from the State. That funding pays for the expenses directly connected with our children’s education,” said Joseph Garcia, Chief Communications Officer. This year, student attendance is a high priority because two student holidays occur during the official count week, Columbus Day on Monday, Oct. 10th and a teacher work day on Thursday, Oct. 13th. The reduced number of school days reduces the number of opportunities students have to be counted. “Every parent should make sure that students are in attendance on Tuesday, Oct. 11, Wednesday, Oct. 12th and Friday, Oct. 14th,” said Garcia. “The difference between being counted or not counted amounts to thousands of dollars toward the education our students deserve.” # # # 05-LJG/073/jjs |
