M-DCPS STUDENT NAMED SCHOOL ALL-STAR BY GOV. BUSH MIAMI —Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School student Zachary Sandoval had an unusual lunch companion during an April 1 visit to Tallahassee – Gov. Jeb Bush. Sandoval was named one of the Governor’s High School All-Stars, as part of a program that honors a public high school junior from each Florida school district who demonstrates leadership and academic excellence. Sandoval was chosen by a six-person panel to represent Miami-Dade County. Each All-Star must earn a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, maintain a clean discipline record, and participate in extracurricular activities and community service. Sandoval is Krop’s student government vice president and is fluent in Spanish and French. He is active in the debate team, French club, math honor society, French honor society and science honor society. His community involvement includes service to the Daily Food Bank, Teen Court and Wonders of Science. He was the regional winner of the prestigious international Stockholm Junior Water Prize and the RICOH Scientific Research and Economic Development Award. He also plays cello in the Florida Youth Orchestra. During their visit, the All-Stars met with Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings and K-12 Education Chancellor Jim Warford. The governor hosted a luncheon and roundtable discussion. The students visited the Capitol and participated in a mock senate session.
