M-DCPS HONORS NATIONAL BOARD-CERTIFIED EDUCATORS

WHO: 
Miami-Dade County Public Schools administrators and staff, National Board-certified teachers
WHAT:
Great Educator & Mentor Awards to honor National Board-certified teachers. Board-certified teachers have completed 150 to 200 hours of intensive, reflective and analytical writing activities, as well as videotaping of classroom instruction. They also have undergone an intensive written assessment, comprised of six 30-minute essay responses discussing effective teaching practices and content knowledge.

WHY:
One hundred eighty-eight Miami-Dade County Public Schools teachers recently earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. With the new crop of Board-certified teachers, Miami-Dade County ranks third in the nation with 793 Board-certified educators. Eleven Miami-Dade teachers were recognized in early and middle childhood literacy, a new category for the National Board.
