RECIPIENT OF NATION’S HIGHEST STUDENT HONOR

MIAMI — Anne T. Blazejack of the New World School of the Arts received the nation’s top high school student honor when she was named a 2005 Presidential Scholar in the Arts, one of only 141 annually. She will be honored at recognition events June 25-28 in Washington, D.C.

Blazejack is a talented student in the visual arts program and excels in English, history and biology. She is the recipient of the coveted Harvard Book Award. In addition to her artistic work, she is a water polo player who was third team goalie on the Dade All-County water polo team. She plans to attend Brown University this fall.

The United States Presidential Scholars Program honors distinguished graduating seniors, one girl and one boy from each state. Scholars also encompass 15 chosen at large, Americans living abroad and 20 Presidential Scholars in the Arts.

Presidential Scholars are selected by the Commission on Presidential Scholars based on academic achievement and exceptional aptitude in the performing, literary and visual arts. Students were eligible based on their SAT and ACT scores or a nomination through the Arts Recognition and Talent Search. The commission is a group of leaders in government, education, business and finance who serve one year as commissioners.

New World School of the Arts provides a comprehensive program of artistic, creative and academic development through a curriculum that reflects the rich multicultural state of Florida.
