ROCKWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WIN
NATIONAL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
MIAMI – Facing off against more than 5,000 other “chess-mates” at the Chess Supernationals III, the Rockway Middle School Chess Team swept the competition and claimed two national championships: First Place, National Champions in the K-9 Unrated division and First Place, National Champions in the K-8 U 750 division.
“Our students put their hearts into this competition,” said Rockway Principal Maria Cedeño. “We are so very proud of them and thrilled that they’ve brought such an honor home.”
Forty Rockway students participated in the United States Chess Federation competition in Nashville last week. Twenty won personal trophies.
