DOES YOUR CHILD NEED EXTRA HELP?
M-DPCS is placing special focus on children who need extra help. Summer school is mandatory for all retained third graders and designated Title I students in grades four, five, seven and eight at select elementary and middle school summer academies. It is available to high school students that didn’t pass the FCAT, transition sixth and ninth graders (Level 1 FCAT), and eighth graders that failed a class. The Passport to Summer Exploration program infuses the arts, mathematics and science, world language immersion, citizenship empowerment, learning demonstrations and family engagement into courses. Nature’s Wonders: A Summertime Literature Adventure is the theme for elementary schools and will focus on attaining reading proficiency, writing skills and problem solving with accuracy. Celebrating Community: Learning About Ourselves and Others is the theme for middle schools. Coursework will incorporate the expectations of middle and high school environments regarding academic, social, and core ethical values as wells as offering a successful transition to middle and high school. High schools and adult education will learn under the theme of Literacy for Lifelong Learning. Other summer services include Get Ready, Get Set and Go to School, a program that orients parents of four and five-year-olds in school readiness and development.
