SIX FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE’S TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ most outstanding educator will be named at the annual Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year District Recognition Ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Parrot Jungle Island, 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail, Miami. Tickets are $45 per person or $450 for a table of 10. Parking is $3. Finalists have been nominated from each of the District’s six regions. The nominees, their school and the grades or subjects they teach are as follows: Region I - Homer G. Young - Lake Stevens Elementary - 2nd Grade Region II - Leslee Vichengrad - Madie Ives Elementary - 4th Grade Region III - Pedro R. Cedeño - Doral Middle - Social Studies Region IV - Mark Tohulka - MAST Academy - Science Region V - Andrea Hope Spivak - Miami Palmetto Senior - English Region VI - Lynn Carrier - Gulfstream Elementary - 3rd Grade The Teacher of the Year program is a joint venture between United Teachers of Dade, PTA/PTSA of Miami-Dade County and Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
