M-DCPS OFFERS STUDENT TRANSFERS, MAY 15MIAMI – Parents who wish to transfer their child to another school can get a jump-start on the process as transfer season starts earlier this year on May 15. Parents/guardians who want their child to attend a school outside of their attendance boundary need to apply for an Out-of-Area Transfer at the Regional Center serving their legal address. All parents/guardians must fill out a transfer application and submit the appropriate material corresponding to the reason for the transfer. Transfers are based on four criteria: working parent hardship, best interest, medical and curriculum. Those claiming working parent hardship must prove their child is unable to attend a school because of conflicting work schedules. A letter from each parent’s jobsite stating his or her hours and days of work must be supplied. Those claiming best interest must prove that it is truly in the best interest of the child to transfer schools and must submit a self-addressed envelope. Medical transfer applicants must have a physician complete the medical recommendation form. It should be submitted to the respective Regional Center for processing at Attendance Services. Those applying for curriculum transfers must prove that the course study is in alignment with the student’s future goals and career by filling out a separate form. The respective Regional Center will determine approval or denial of the transfer and will notify the family.
