Parents/guardians of students attending a Title I school that has not met AYP for two or more years have two Parental Choice Options. Their children may remain at the current school or transfer with transportation to a higher-performing school within the student’s geographic zone. Parents/guardians of students attending a Title I school that has not met AYP for three or more years have three Parental Choice Options. Their children may remain at the current school, transfer with transportation to a higher-performing school within the student’s geographic zone or choose free tutoring delivered by state-approved providers. The tutoring option is available only to students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. NCLB was established to improve the academic achievement of students in low-performing schools around the country. Title I is the largest federal aid program for elementary and secondary schools and provides low income students with additional assistance for meeting state and performance standards that have been set for all students. The enrollment period for transfers with transportation is April 24, 2006 through May 19, 2006. Applications must be completed at the child’s school. Enrollment for Supplemental Educational Services will take place in the fall of 2006.
