MAST ACADEMY TEACHER WINS PRESTIGIOUS SIEMENS AWARD


MIAMI – Mark Tohulka, a science teacher at Maritime and Science Technology(MAST) Academy and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Teacher of the Year runner-up, is one of 50 teachers nationwide to receive the prestigious 2005-06 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement (AP).

Tohulka was selected for his exemplary teaching and enthusiastic dedication to students and the AP Program. An educator for 20 years, Tohulka has been at MAST Academy since 1999. He has won several honors, including the Milken Educator Award and a Florida Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching. He is also a National Board Certified teacher.

As a winner of the Siemens Award, Tohulka will receive an award of $1,000. To be eligible for this award, teachers must have a minimum of five years teaching experience in math, science, or technology.
