M-DCPS CONSTRUCTION FORGES ON: MIAMI – In as little as two years, students in both ends of Miami-Dade County will be attending new state-of-the-art K-8 centers, thanks to three projects approved Wednesday by the School Board. The $100 million project calls for the construction of three K-8 centers, two in the southern end of the County and one in the northern end. The schools’ design is based on a prototype model developed by the District to make school construction faster and more affordable. State School “D” will be located at N.E. 211th Street and 26th Avenue and will relieve Virginia A. Boone/Highland Oaks Elementary, Madie Ives Elementary and Highland Oaks Middle schools. Down south, two schools will bring much-needed relief to the area. State School “CC-1” will relieve Pine Villa Elementary, Redland Elementary, Naranja Elementary, Redland Middle and Mays Middle schools and will be located at SW 124th Avenue and 242nd Street. State School “DD-1” will relieve Leisure City K-8 Center, Irving & Beatrice Peskoe Elementary and W. Chapman Elementary schools and will be located at SW 280th Street and 150th Avenue. Each of the three centers will add 1,642 student seats and are part of the District’s plan to deliver an unprecedented 20,000 new student seats by the start of the school year in August. Pirtle Construction Company has been commissioned to construct the facilities, all of which will be completed in approximately two years from the Notice to Proceed. # # # 06-LJG/222/TEL |
