MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ENGLISH TEACHER MIAMI – Dr. Gema Santos, a teacher at The English Center, is one of only twelve English experts chosen nationwide to create the first standardized examination for non- U.S. citizen applicants who wish to become naturalized. Dr. Santos was hand picked by the Department of Homeland Security to assist their Office of Citizenship in redesigning the U.S Naturalization Test. She is the only Florida member and the only teacher among the group. Dr. Santos is 17-year veteran with the District, where she teaches citizenship and English for speakers of other languages. A product of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, she is a graduate of the University of Miami and Florida State University Law School. Dr. Santos is currently pursuing an additional doctoral degree at Nova Southeastern University. She also is the parliamentarian for the international association for Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages. The Office of Citizenship will train the exam administrators next year.
