MIAMI-DADE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TEACHER MIAMI – Anthony Stout, a teacher/advocate for Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) Title I Migrant Education Program, has been named the Title I Migrant Education Teacher of the Year by the Florida Department of Education. Stout has been with M-DCPS since 1996 and is currently based at Laura C. Saunders Elementary School. Very active in the migrant community, he coaches T-ball, soccer, and baseball and is the Migrant Scoutmaster for five Boy Scout troops and five Cub Scout Packs, totaling 147 migrant boys 8 to 18 years old. He also was recently selected as member of the Mexican American Council of Homestead, Florida and is a board member of the Everglades Community Association, which houses migrant families. Stout is a decorated Marine, serving for over 20 years and completing three, 13-month tours in Vietnam, among many other places. The award recognizes Stout for his dedication and commitment to migrant students and their families, and as recognition for his work in assisting the academic achievement and betterment of migratory children and families. # # # 06-LJG/231/TEL |
