FLDOE GRANT BRINGS LAPTOPS TO CLASSROOMS

MIAMI – In an effort to further boost student achievement, a $1 million grant from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) will provide seventh-graders at Campbell Drive Middle School, one of 39 schools in the School Improvement Zone, with laptop computers.

The integration of laptops into the classroom will provide technology-enriched instruction and greater access to this technology for all seventh-graders. Campbell Drive Middle currently runs on a wireless network but has a limited laptop program. Teachers there have expressed a desire to use laptops as tools in implementing a one-to-one learning program.

Additionally, Campbell Drive Middle has a history of high suspension rates and absenteeism, and low test scores. Students at the school would greatly benefit from the opportunity to use this enhanced technology and receive tailored instruction.

The grant period runs May 5, 2006 through June 30, 2007 and also includes Aspira South Youth Leadership Charter School as a participant.
