MIAMI-DADE SCHOOLS, THE PARENT ACADEMY MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools nabbed America’s most prestigious school public relations award this month for The Parent Academy (TPA), the District’s landmark initiative to help parents become more effectively involved in their children’s education. The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) presented its Gold Medallion to Media Relations Specialist Daiva Fernandez, Marketing Director Jeff Ronci and Parent Academy Dean Sandy Moise at the organization’s national conference in Chicago July 12. Since The Parent Academy’s debut last fall, more than 18,000 people have attended such TPA classes as Helping Your Child Learn to Read, Dealing with Crisis and Emergencies, and Managing Your Home Finances. The classes are offered in English, Spanish and Haitian-Creole at more than 80 sites across town, including public libraries, shopping malls and private businesses.
