SCHOOL DISTRICT MAKES PROGRESS WITH HEALTH INSPECTIONS

MIAMI - Miami-Dade County Public Schools continues to make progress with school inspections conducted by the Miami-Dade County Health Department. Five schools that had previously received “unsatisfactory” inspections from the Miami-Dade Health Department successfully passed re-inspection on Saturday, November 4th. They are Miami Springs, Arcola Lake, and James Bright elementary schools, Marjory Stoneman Douglas Primary Learning Center, and Madison Middle School.

Another six schools were inspected and passed on Tuesday, November 7th, including Ben Sheppard, North Hialeah, Poinciana Park, Edison Park, and Morningside elementary schools and the 500 Role Models Academy.

Wednesday, four more schools passed re-inspection. They are Phyllis Miller, Thena Crowder, and Toussaint L’Ouverture elementary schools and Miami Edison Senior High School.

To date, 20 schools have passed re-inspection. District Maintenance and Plant Operations crews continue to finalize repairs at the few remaining schools that received unsatisfactory reports. Custodial and food service personnel from the affected schools will also continue necessary cleaning activities.  Re-inspections for other schools have been requested, and you will be notified as they pass re-inspection.

Superintendent of Schools Rudolph F. “Rudy” Crew has centralized management of health department inspection report responses and has requested procedural changes from the health department to help the District comply with regulations.  Requested changes include real-time inspection reporting, the attendance of school administrators when inspections are performed, sending duplicate reports to District administrators, and more detailed reporting.
