ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION SUMMIT TO PRESENT
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES, SPEAKERS

MIAMI - High school seniors enrolled in alternative education schools and programs will have an opportunity to learn about post-secondary planning, character building, and careers at the 2nd Annual Alternative Education Summit on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 9 a.m. The summit will be held at Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. 2nd Ave., Building 3, Chapman Conference Center, Room 3210.

The keynote speaker will be Shawn Jackson Sr. of the Jaxsun Group, a training organization that works to improve and understand youth, young adults, and adult relations. During the summit, students will hear a presentation on Hip-Hop’s influence on youth and will gain insight into the mixed emotions and messages existing in Hip-Hop culture. Examples are used to show the devastating results that come about when violence and other counter-productive behaviors are used as the only resolution. Additionally, positive examples in Hip-Hop will be given that teach youth the importance of education, perseverance, excellence, skill-building and goal setting.
