New Energy Efficient “Green” School Design

WHY:

To celebrate the construction of State School YYY-1. The new facility is being built to provide relief for Miami Palmetto and Miami Killian senior high schools.

Information

Located on a 17-acre site, the new high school will be built on a portion of the Miami Douglas MacArthur South campus. In line with the District’s policy to build energy efficient schools, the new facility will be submitted for certification by the United States Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design. The new design will incorporate energy preservation features, including energy efficient lighting controls and equipment, low emitting materials and water conservation. The school’s design includes a cafetorium with outside dining covered area, labs and new playfields. YYY-1 will total 178,000 gross square feet and will house approximately 1,864 students.
