Ponce de Leon Middle Becomes A fully Authorized
International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

CORAL GABLES – This week, Ponce de Leon Middle School became the first school in Regional Center IV to become fully authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization for its prestigious International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP).

The Middle Years Programme is a three-year program designed for students in grades 6 to 8 in Ponce de Leon Middle School.  It offers a teaching methodology that connects school subjects to the world outside school. It challenges students to consider their role in global and local communities. The Middle Years Programme offers a balanced education where students engage in eight subject groups each year: English, foreign language, social studies, mathematics, science, the arts, technology and physical education.

The IBMYP at Ponce de Leon is an academically challenging program that requires an application to the magnet office every year.  The school’s magnet office is currently conducting tours of this prestigious program to all interested parents and community members. For more information on International Baccalaureate (IB), visit www.ibo.org.
The IB was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation. Its original purpose was to facilitate the international mobility of students preparing for higher education by providing schools with a curriculum and diploma recognized by universities around the world. Since then, its mission has expanded, and it now seeks to make an IB education available to students of all ages.
To schedule a tour of Ponce de Leon Middle School, contact the Magnet Office at 305-661-1611 ext. 2212.
