Superintendent Rudy Crew To Surprise Turner Tech Seniors
With Broad Prize College Scholarships

The national Broad Prize education panel will visit MDCPS this week to evaluate the District

Seniors from William H. Turner Technical Arts High School, Schools Superintendent Rudy Crew, panel of national education experts

WHAT:
Superintendent Crew will hand out Broad Prize scholarships to several unsuspecting Turner Tech students. Joining Dr. Crew will be a panel of national education experts that is conducting site visits of Miami-Dade County Public Schools this week to gather information to inform the decision on whether Miami-Dade will win the 2008 Broad Prize for Urban Education.

A press conference with Dr. Crew and the students will follow.

WHY:

The scholarships are from the $125,000 the District received last year as a Broad Prize finalist. For the third consecutive year, MDCPS has been chosen as a finalist for The Broad Prize.

This week’s panel visit will include interviews with district officials, principals, teachers, staff, parents and community organizations, as well as classroom observations to determine why Miami-Dade students are making gains and to identify best practices.
