Calvin Hughes To Help Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center
Celebrate Haitian Flag Day

On May 18, Haitian-Americans across the country celebrate Haitian Flag Day

WHO: Calvin Hughes, Emmy Award-Winning Reporter for WPLG-Channel 10
WHAT: Calvin Hughes recently produced and aired a documentary showing a balanced point of view on the lifestyle of Haitians in Haiti. He will address students at Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center to share his experiences  of producing a documentary, which portrays Haiti not only as the poorest country in the hemisphere, but also as a beautiful tropical island where family and education are among the highest values of the people.
WHEN: Wednesday, May 21, at 9:30 a.m.
WHERE: Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center, 750 N.W. 20th Street, Cafeteria
WHY: Lindsey Hopkins principal, Rosa D. Borgen, said Hughes’ documentary will offer a sense of hope about life in Haiti, which is not usually conveyed during regular news reports. The school has a high percentage of Haitian students, therefore, celebrating Haitian Flag Day at the school will help make students feel welcome and provide them with the opportunity to learn about tolerance and appreciation for other cultures and languages.
