The team is providing transportation to Tropical Park, free admission, snacks and giveaways to more than 4,000 elementary and middle school students from all over the county. “Regardless of the final score on the field, I believe this is a victory for everyone involved,” said the Miami FC’s Marcos Ommati. “‘Miami-Dade County Public Schools Day’ is further proof of our continued commitment to the youngest and most valuable members of our community. We want to strive in giving back and making a positive impact in big ways.” “We value our partnership with Miami FC and the many opportunities they are giving our students,” said M-DCPS Superintendent Rudy Crew. “Community involvement is at the core of a great public school system.” The event also marks the official launch of READ Fútbol Mundial, a new kids national soccer magazine that encourages families to read together. This pilot program includes lesson plans using the magazine as a vehicle for improving reading skills and promoting bilingual literacy in school and after school. “Education is the most important thing you can give kids,” said Pelé, the legendary soccer player who is committed to this literacy initiative. READ Fútbol Mundial contains kid-friendly articles and features about today’s soccer players that are both engaging and educational. “When a child reads, miracles happen. The mind strengthens, the imagination soars and the capacity for learning grows,” said Crew. “When a family reads together, miracles happen as well. Family bonds strengthen and children discover the fun and the joy of reading. We are proud to partner with READ Fútbol Mundial.” # # # 08-JJS/310/HD |
