Spring 2008 FCAT Results Show Steady Improvement
Among M-DCPS Third-Graders
MIAMI – According to results released today by the Florida Department of Education, Miami-Dade County Public Schools third-grade students taking the Spring 2008 FCAT SSS improved their scores significantly from 2007 to 2008 in both reading and mathematics.
The percentages of Miami-Dade public school third grade students who scored at levels 3, 4, or 5 in both reading and mathematics increased substantially from 2007 to 2008, exceeding increases statewide. In mathematics, 75 percent of the District’s third-grade students scored at levels 3 and above. Scores in the mathematics assessment have steadily increased since 2005. In reading, 67 percent of the District’s third grade students scored at levels 3 and above, with consistent improvement over the last four years.
School Improvement Zone
Student scores among the District’s 39 School Improvement Zone schools also increased. Nearly half of the Zone’s third grade students scored at levels 3, 4, or 5 in reading, while more than 60 percent of students earned passing scores in mathematics.
