FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW M-DCPS STUDENTS SCORE
ABOVE THE NATIONAL MEDIAN ON FCAT NRT
MIAMI – For the third year in a row Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) students in grades three through ten scored significantly higher than the national median of 50 on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test Norm-Referenced Test (FCAT NRT) in both reading and mathematics.
“Today’s results are indicative of a very positive trend,” said Superintendent Rudy Crew. “Not only are our students showing marked improvement in reading and mathematics each year, but they are doing better than the national average. This demonstrates impressive progress for our entire community.”
More than 205,000 Miami-Dade public school students took the FCAT NRT in Spring 2008. Results show that from 2007 to 2008 sixth-grade students from both the District and the State improved their median percentile ranks in mathematics by six and five points, respectively. Fourth-grade students in Miami-Dade’s public schools improved their reading scores by 7 points, while tenth-grade students boosted their scores by 12 points. Reading scores for fourth- and tenth-graders across the state increased by six and 11 points, respectively. The reading results in other grades tested were mixed, with slight increases and decreases from 2007 to 2008.
