M-DCPS SCHOOL PERFORMANCE GRADES MOVE UP
More ‘A's, Fewer ‘F's
MIAMI—Miami-Dade’s public schools received their performance grades today from the Florida Department of Education—and they are great!
Among all schools, 89 percent received an “A,” “B,” or “C,” an eight percent increase over last year. The most frequent performance grade for the county’s schools is an “A,” with 29 more schools receiving “A"s than last year.
“These strong results represent a very positive trend, and we see our students building on their success year-over-year. Teachers, administrators and volunteers can certainly be proud of these gains,” said Superintendent Rudy Crew. “The positive trend also reflects a community that is more involved in education—from The Parent Academy to our partners at local colleges and universities to our faith-based partners. Everyone shares in this success.”
Additionally, “D”s and “F”s decreased over last year, with “F”s being cut by more than half.
Dr. Crew noted the improvement in this area, but confirmed that more work needs to be done. “The persistent and devastating impact of poverty unfortunately is still manifested in communities where schools, despite their best efforts, have yet to overcome their ‘F.’ More resources and redoubled efforts are necessary here,” said Crew.
Among the many individual schools exhibiting strong success: Naranja Elementary, West Homestead Elementary, Brownsville Middle, Carol City Middle and Hialeah Senior High all moved from “F” to “C”, and Miami Gardens Elementary School jumped from an “F” to a “B.”
