M-DCPS CABINET MEMBER NAMED TO
PTA NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public School’s Associate Superintendent of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs & Grants Administration, Alberto M. Carvalho, was appointed to the Parent Teacher Association’s (PTA) National Board of Directors at its recent 112th Annual National PTA Convention in San Diego.

National board members serve two-year terms and are either elected by convention delegates or appointed by the national president as at-large members. Board members are non-paid volunteers.

“We are proud to add Alberto Carvalho to our national leadership,” said Jan Harp Domene, national PTA president, “Mr. Carvalho brings expertise and passion that will help the board continue the organization’s rich legacy of engaging parents, schools, legislators, and community leaders in improving children’s health, safety, and educational success.”

The PTA’s Board of Directors includes 28 parents, educational professionals, and community and business leaders from across the country. The national board works with the national CEO and staff to continue long-term strategies and priorities that benefit families nationwide. They also ensure the implementation of the association’s strategic plan to speak for every child with one voice.

In addition to Carvalho, M-DCPS graduate Nicholaus Nelson-Goedert was appointed to the Board as well.  He is currently a student at Gerogetown University.

The PTA is the largest volunteer parent organization in the country with more than five million members including parents, students, educators, school administrators, and business and community leaders.
