Parent Choice Information Fairs Scheduled for Free Tutoring Services

Parents can now sign their children up for free tutoring!

As a result of the Federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), children can receive extra academic help in the areas of math, reading, and language arts. This free tutoring is available if a child’s school has been identified as “in need of improvement.” Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is holding an enrollment period for 2008-2009 State-Approved Supplemental Educational Services (SES). Parent Information Packets are sent home to parents of students who attend eligible schools.

Students attending eligible Title I schools and who receive free or reduced price meals are eligible to participate in the SES Tutorial Program. SES is a tutorial program offered by private providers, approved by the State of Florida, at no cost to the parent. Services must be consistent with instructional programs of the school district and aligned with the State’s academic content standards. Supplemental Educational Services must be provided outside of the regular school day (before and after school or on weekends).

Parents interested in enrolling their children in SES may complete and submit an enrollment form at their child’s school, via the District’s Parent Portal at myportal.dadeschools.net/parent, at one of the SES Parent Choice Fairs, or via fax at 305-995-2540.  The enrollment period is August 18 - September 8, 2008.
