M-DCPS OPENS WITH RECORD NUMBER OF NEW STUDENT STATIONS
MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools opened the school year with a 13 new schools, bringing the total of new schools opened during 2008 to 15 and providing 27,000 new student stations. The District has opened 29 new or replacement schools and created a total of 84,000 student stations in just four years, making significant progress in achieving the school district’s goal of eradicating overcrowding by 2010. The newly opened schools are as follows:
- Arch Creek Elementary School/North Miami Middle School
- Dr. Manuel Barreiro Elementary School
- Andover Middle School
- Hialeah Gardens Middle School
- Zelda Glazer Middle School
- Miami Jackson Senior High School (Replacement)

- South Dade Senior High School (Replacement)
- Aventura Waterways K-8 Center
- Coconut Palm K-8 Academy
- Mandarin Lakes K-8 Academy
- Sunny Isles Beach Community School
- Rolando Espinosa K-8 Center
- Young Men’s Preparatory Academy

Spanish Lake Elementary School and Westland Hialeah Senior High School were opened in January 2008.
“We have worked very hard to make this happen. This confirms the District’s commitment to eliminating overcrowding and providing students with modern, state-of-the-art facilities,” stated Chief Facilities Officer Jaime Torrens.
