M-DCPS Receives Grant from Target for Family Involvement Day, Sept. 3

MIAMI — Miami-Dade County Public Schools today announced a partnership with Target stores in recognition of its efforts to build strong relationships with families to promote student success.  The Target grant will support Family Involvement Day, September 3, 2008, when schools throughout the District will collaborate with their PTAs and community members to make families feel welcome in their schools. The goal is to build family partnerships and PTA membership.

School Board Chair Agustin J. Barrera and Superintendent Rudy Crew have been invited to celebrate Family Involvement Day at Riverside Elementary School with its principal, Sharon M. Lopez; Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs president, Mindy Gould; and Riverside’s PTA president, Lenia Cardenas. Riverside is located at 1190 S.W. 2nd St., Miami.

This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Since opening its doors in 1962, Target has given 5 percent of its income to organizations that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism.
