MIAMI – Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho addressed the Coral Gables City Commission this morning regarding the city’s Compact with Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

“My commitment to the Compact is strong,” Superintendent Carvalho said.  “We have a great mission ahead of us.  My heart is with you to improve the quality of education and the work force in this community.”

In attendance at today’s meeting were the principals of 10 Miami-Dade public schools that lie within the City of Coral Gables’ boundaries and benefit from the cooperation between the city and the school district afforded by the compact, which was begun two years ago.

Superintendent Carvalho informed Coral Gables Mayor Don Slesnick and the city commissioners that all of the Compact’s schools have improved or maintained their school performance grades in the last year. Seven of the 10 schools now have a grade of A, and no Compact school is below a C.  Coral Gables Senior High, a Compact school, was recently named one of the country’s top high schools by Newsweek magazine.

Superintendent Carvalho emphasized his dedication to the compact’s success and his desire to continue dialogue with city leaders.
