M-DCPS EDUCATOR ELECTED FIRST HISPANIC FEMALE PRESIDENT
OF STATE’S ADULT EDUCATION ORGANIZATION

MIAMI - Dr. Nilda Diaz, principal of Hialeah Miami Lakes Adult and Community Education Center recently was elected president of ACE of Florida, a non-profit association that represents the interests, concerns and talents of adult and community education professionals and volunteers. Diaz, a veteran educator for over 30 years, is the organization’s first Hispanic female to hold this position.

“Our priority will be to improve learning gains and secondary school graduation rates,” Diaz said.

Plans for her year-long presidency also include creating a seamless program for secondary school students transitioning to adult school courses and joining forces with workforce development education.

Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho praised Diaz’s selection: “This honor and achievement is a reflection on the high quality of education that M-DCPS provides to the whole community, not just to our K-12 students, but also to workforce development and adult program students.”

ACE is committed to improving and expanding adult and community education programs and services to enhance the quality of life for all Floridians.
