REAGAN/DORAL HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL WINS
STATE’S PRINCIPAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

MIAMI – Douglas P. Rodriguez, Principal of Ronald W. Reagan/Doral Senior High School, was named the winner of the 2008 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership at the Fifth Annual Commissioner's Summit for Principals held in Tampa, last Monday.

Rodriguez, who was chosen from among three state finalists, was presented with a check for $5,000.  His school will receive a check for $1,000.

“Mr. Rodriguez personifies leadership, to the benefit of his students and his community,” said Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho.  “Since Ronald W. Reagan/Doral Senior High School opened, Mr. Rodriguez has been the guiding light who has made the school into the successful learning institution that it is today.”

The Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership was established in 1988 to recognize exemplary principals who spearhead initiatives to increase student performance, promote safe learning environments and establish partnerships with parents and community members. A statewide selection committee chose state finalists from district nominees, and an overall winner was selected for each category.

Stephanie C. Soliven, of Cocoa High School in Brevard, was the winner of the Assistant Principal Achievement Award.
