M-DCPS HIGH SCHOOLS NAMED AMERICA’S BEST BY
U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT

MIAMI – U.S. News & World Report announced today its second annual list of 100 Gold Medal High Schools and two Miami-Dade County public schools, Design & Architecture Senior High School (DASH) and Maritime & Science Technology Academy (MAST), made the grade as America’s 2009 Best High Schools.  This is the second gold medal for DASH, and the first for MAST, which won a silver last year.

The magazine also honored seven other Miami-Dade high schools.  The winners include silver, bronze and honorable mention:

Coral Reef  - Silver
Doral Academy Charter - Silver
Mater Academy Charter - Silver
New World School of the Arts - Silver

Robert Morgan Educational Center - Bronze
William H. Turner Technical Arts - Bronze

School for Advanced Studies South - Honorable Mention

The magazine analyzed 21,000 high schools in 48 states using a formula produced by a K-12 data research and analysis business run by Standard & Poor's. The three-step analyses were based on Advanced Placement (AP) tests, International Baccalaureate (IB) tests, and then both AP and IB tests together.  The 100 schools that did the best earned gold medals.

This list of all the schools is currently available on U.S. News’ website: www.usnews.com, and will be published next week.
