DISTRICT RECEIVES $3 MILLION GRANT FROM USDOE TO MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools received a highly competitive grant from the U. S. Department of Education for $3,043,164 to fund the Teaching American History program. The purpose of the five-year grant is to provide 290 teachers of 5th, 8th and 11th grade American History with professional development tailored to their needs. Participants may choose from professional development designed specifically for 5th grade teachers; a series of two-day workshops taught by history scholars; or a Master’s degree program. The grant also includes funds to cover testing fees for participants completing Florida Teaching Certification. The grant will be managed by Curriculum and Instruction, Social Services and Life Skills and supports the District’s goal to ensure achievement of high academic standards for all students. # # # 09/JS/033/HD |
