U.S. REPRESENTATIVE ILEANA ROS-LEHTINEN VOICES SUPPORT FOR SUPERINTENDENT’S BENEFIT CONCERT SERIES
MIAMI – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has voiced her support for the Superintendent’s Benefit Concert Series, which begins this evening at 8 p.m. at Miami Beach Senior High School.
In a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Ros-Lehtinen said, “As a former educator and Florida certified teacher, I am proud to see our teachers, our students, and our community working together to make this great series a success. I encourage all in South Florida to attend this historic event on Friday and enjoy great performances for a great cause. I congratulate Superintendent Alberto Carvalho for doing such professional work in a challenging economic environment.”
Tonight’s concert, titled “Listen to the Music,” will raise funds for the Cultural Passport Program, which will provide K-12 students with a different cultural experience each school year. Beach High is located at 2231 Prairie Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33139.
Performances at the concert include:
- Elementary School Combined Chorus featuring three schools
- Musical Theatre with the New World School of the Arts and Miami Northwestern Senior High’s PAVAC Theatre Ensemble
- Ballad of America with Matthew Sabatella
- M-DCPS Employee Jazz Ensemble
- Dance from Southwood and Charles R. Drew middle schools
- Opera from Coral Reef Senior High School
The goal of the Cultural Passport Program is to provide all K-12 students with a different cultural field experience each school year. By the time a student graduates from senior high school, he/she will have visited museums and art galleries, and experienced live musical, theatrical and dance performances.
