MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS STATEMENT REGARDING UTD LAWSUITIt is disheartening that in the midst of an economic crisis the District finds itself responding to the threat of a costly legal action from a single group, rather than being able to focus on crafting a solution that is beneficial for all. Pursuant to section 447.605(1), Florida Statutes: All discussions between the chief executive officer of the public employer, or his or her representative, and the legislative body or the public employer relative to collective bargaining shall be closed and exempt from the provisions of s. 286.011. (s.286.011 is Florida’s Sunshine Law). We remain committed to an open and honest conversation with all of our employee groups. We have reached out to all bargaining units in an attempt to sit at the table and engage in an honest discussion to bargain the impacts of the latest round of budget cuts, in a manner that would best protect the interests of all of the District’s employees. We believe that if given the opportunity to engage in discussions with all employee organizations, we can craft a plan that will protect the classroom, protect our permanent work force, maintain salaries, and preserve the fiscal viability of the district. ### 09-JJS/389 |
