FOUR FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE’S TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ most outstanding educator will be named at the annual Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year and Rookie Teacher of the Year recognition ceremony at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Doral Golf Resort & Spa, 4400 N.W. 87th Ave., Doral. Tickets are $55 per person or $550 for a table of 10.

Finalists have been nominated from each of the District’s four regions. The nominees for Teacher of the Year, their school and the grades or subjects they teach are as follows:
North Regional Center – Grisell R. Rodriguez – Spanish Lake Elementary – Guidance & Counseling

North Central Regional CenterDr. Nerry Louis Hialeah Gardens Senior High – 9th-10th grade Language Arts

South Regional CenterPatricia Fairclough – Air Base Elementary – 2nd grade

South Central Regional CenterAnia Fernandez – Charles R. Hadley Elementary – 4th grade

The finalists for Rookie Teacher of the Year and their schools are as follows:
North Regional Center – Corinne Margo Wainer – Carol City Senior High

North Central Regional CenterJeffrey Dearing – Miami Springs Senior High

South Regional CenterKelli Valdez – Mandarin Lakes K-8 Academy

South Central Regional CenterMarcos Redondo – Coral Gables Senior High

The Teacher of the Year program is a joint venture between United Teachers of Dade, Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. UnitedHealthcare is sponsoring the event. Co-sponsors include Toyota of South Florida, Nova Southeastern University, Univision 23 and Telefutura 69.
