M-DCPS STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES RAISE $2.2M FOR UNITED WAY

Miami-Dade County Public Schools raised $2,242,063 for the United Way of Miami-Dade this year. This accomplishment makes Miami-Dade’s the nation’s top student and employee school district campaigns for the 34th consecutive year.

Schools and offices meeting or exceeding their fund-raising goals were feted at a recent ceremony at Jungle Island. All told, students raised $677,277 this year, with employees raising nearly $1.6 million.

Robert Morgan Educational Center was tops among student fundraisers, with $13,048 in contributions. Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School was first among employees, with $19,046.

The District’s grand champions, the two schools and the office with the highest percentage raised in the entire campaign, were Aspira South Leadership Charter School (among schools with populations under 500), at 1,498 percent; William Lehman Elementary School (among schools with student populations greater than 500), at 1,157 percent; and Hialeah-Miami Lakes Adult Center (among all employee campaigns), at 913 percent.
