MIAMI-DADE ACADEMY OF FINANCE TO HOLD SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER

It's time to play ball…the Miami-Dade Academy of Finance, which represents 11 Miami-Dade County public schools, will hold its first softball tournament on Saturday, March 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tropical Park, 7900 S.W. 40th Street, Miami.  Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvalho is scheduled to throw out the opening pitch.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise money to send the winning team on an all-expense paid field trip to New York City. The trip will include a tour of Wall Street, tickets to the Broadway show “In The Heights,” and other activities. This field experience will enhance the learning that takes place in the Academy of Finance classrooms and bridge the divide between the knowledge gained in schools and the cutting edge of the industry.

The Academy is seeking partners to help sponsor the tournament. Businesses and individuals may sponsor banners, T-shirts, softball bases, or purchase ads in the program guide. To enjoy a full day of softball games, tickets are available for advance purchase for $10 each.

Established in 1982, the Academy of Finance prepares students for post-secondary education and careers by combining academic learning with hands-on work experience to help students develop the thinking and problem-solving skills that are critical to postsecondary education and career success. M-DCPS currently has 11 Academy of Finance (AOF) programs at Barbara Goleman, Booker T. Washington, Coral Reef, Hialeah Gardens, Miami Edison, Miami Jackson, Miami Sunset, Southwest Miami, North Miami, North Miami Beach, and William H. Turner Technical Arts senior high schools.

To register as a sponsor and/or purchase game tickets, please contact Alina Puentes at 305-995-7377 or via email at apuentes@dadeschools.net
