TWO M-DCPS TEACHERS WIN EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD

MIAMI – Two teachers from Miami-Dade County Public Schools were among the three winners named statewide for Gov. Charlie Crist’s Black History Month Excellence in Education Award Contest.  The winners, who were nominated by their peers and students, were chosen for their contributions to education in Florida.

Chosen for the elementary school category was Patricia Fairclough, a second-grade teacher from Air Base Elementary School in Homestead. Earlier this week, Fairclough also was named the M-DCPS’ Teacher of the Year.  Darryl B. Baker, a 6th & 7th grade world geography and civics teacher at Miami Springs Middle School, won the middle school category.  Each winner received a $1,500 check and a $250 gift certificate from Scholastic for educational materials.
