COCONUT PALM K-8 CENTER TO RECEIVE SERVICE LEARNING GRANT FROM STATE FARM DURING CHECK PRESENTATION CEREMONY

Coconut Palm K-8 Center, 24400 S.W. 124 Avenue, Homestead

WHY:

Coconut Palm K-8 Center is the recipient of an $88,000 service
learning grant awarded by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board.  As their service learning project, students will conduct a restoration project in Everglades National Park, the largest subtropical wilderness in the U.S., to help repair the disruptive effects of expansion and industry on the ecosystem, and to create an environmentally-friendly school farm. Students will also collaborate with the Jose Berrios Berdecia School in Puerto Rico which is conducting a similar service-learning project.
