MIAMI-DADE SCHOOL BOARD RESCHEDULES ITS MARCH MEETING

The Miami-Dade County School Board met in a special meeting today to reschedule their March School Board meeting and public hearing to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25. A conference session for the Attendance Boundary Committee also has been moved to March 25 at 10 a.m.  The School Board committee meetings were changed to Monday, March 23, beginning at noon.

The rescheduling occurred because the original meeting date, March 18, coincides with the Florida PTA’s “Rally in Tally” campaign being held in Tallahassee.  The Rally has asked PTA members from around the state to converge on the state capital to meet legislators to advocate putting an end to educational budget cuts.

According to the Florida PTA, further cuts to budgets will negatively impact the lives of the state’s students. Currently, Florida is 50th among the states in funding education and children’s services.  The legislature estimates that the current year’s budget deficit is $2.3 billion and the budget gap next year will be at least $5.8 billion.
