TEN M-DCPS SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED WITH MAGNET SCHOOLS
OF AMERICA MERIT AWARDS
MIAMI – Ten Miami-Dade County public schools recently earned prestigious Magnet Schools of America (MSA) Merit Awards. The MSA Awards are given to magnet schools that demonstrate curriculum innovation, a commitment to high academic standards, a consistent delivery of high quality education to students, and successful diversity efforts.
The MSA Awards are granted in two categories – Schools of Excellence and Schools of Distinction. The 2009 Schools of Excellence include Frank C. Martin International K-8 Center, George Washington Carver Middle School, Herbert A. Ammons Middle School, John F. Kennedy Middle School, and Coral Reef Senior High School. The 2009 Schools of Distinction include Air Base Elementary School, North Dade Center for Modern Languages, Perrine Elementary School, Phyllis Ruth Miller Elementary School, and Southwood Middle School.
MSA was founded in the 1980s in response to educational inequity. The organization offers support and leadership to innovative educational magnet school programs. The magnet programs promote diversity, equity and academic excellence.
