2009 INTERNATIONAL EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR HONOREE

MIAMI – Myrtle Grove Elementary School teacher Denise Orr-Daley was recently recognized as a 2009 International Educator of the Year nominee by The Visiting International Faculty Program.

The third grade teacher received an honorable mention for her outstanding work in the classroom and promoting cultural awareness among her students. Ms. Orr-Daley was one of 16 educators selected for this honor from a field of more than 70 nominees in six states. The nominees work with their students to discuss global issues, learn new languages and explore new countries and cultures.

A native of Jamaica, Ms. Orr-Daley infuses her culture into her daily lesson plans. She has highlighted prominent Jamaican leaders, writers and musicians, as well as hosted a luncheon for her colleagues that included her native music and food. The dedicated teacher sets high expectations for her students and is credited with improving their literacy scores.

The Visiting International Faculty Program is the largest exchange program that connects American schools with international educators. The program selects highly qualified teachers to work as full-time teachers in schools for up to three years. The teachers return to their home country armed with professional development to help their students.
