The ACLU of Florida’s writing competition is an opportunity to recognize civil liberties scholarships that enhance an understanding of the principles of the U.S. Constitution. A panel of judges reviewed student submissions. They chose the winning essays based on the student’s passion, content, writing proficiency, originality, focus and organization. All of the winning essays can be viewed online at www.aclufl.org/zelda. Established in 2007, the Zelda Glazer Scholarship Fund honors the memory and lifelong work of an amazing Miami-Dade County Public Schools educator who worked for more than 40 years as a language arts teacher and administrator. Ms. Glazer was a dedicated advocate for civil liberties in schools and the community. She worked hard to uphold the students’ constitutional rights, especially those involved in speech and journalism. # # # 09-JJS/464/HD |
